BMW

I love: Driving. Fast. Windows down. Heater on. Seat heaters. Blasting/singing to Garbage as loud as I can stand.

Jason Ahmad was the first to introduce me to driving with the windows down, heater on, music blasting in his BMW Z3 many summers ago when we lived together. I remember we were playing Weezer. Till today it's one of my favorite pleasures. The music system in my BMW is so great, designed specifically for the cabin. Audio perfection.

The 'post-mobile' breathes again

After three years in storage (seriously, was driven maybe 2 times around the block, that's it), my BMW was brought back to life yesterday. Other than a dead battery (which recharged itself without trouble), the car is running flawlessly. It feels great to drive it again. The Miata is an amazing car, but this is automotive perfection right here. I am so glad I decided to keep it when I moved to New York.

I was thinking about calling it the "Batmobile" but that's been used a million times. Maybe i'll call it the "post-mobile". Any other ideas?

Kate and I have moved into our apartment, I got my cars, my toys, all my old stuff that was stored in my dad's house. Now we're truly settled in San Francisco. It feels great to be here.

Throttle response

It's been 3 whole years since I've driven my BMW 330Ci. I parked it in my dad's garage in SLO before I moved to New York, and didn't touch it until this weekend, getting it ready for my move back to San Francisco. I couldn't drive it much this weekend since it's still not registered yet. But even with the little driving I did, two words came to mind:

Throttle response

I haven't driven many good cars in the past 3 years. A few Minis from zipcar, Gary Johnson's Carrera, Nils's 335 convertible. Great cars. But even these cars were all automatics. Driving my car was the first time driving a fast, manual sports car in a long time. And the throttle response brought a smile to my face.

Touch the gas and there is no downshift, no turbo lag, no delay whatsoever. Your foot goes down, and your head is pushed back into the seat. Lovely.

Other things I love about my car: window controls in the middle, integrated V1, M3 steering wheel, bilstein suspension. I can't wait to drive my BMW again :)
