MobileMe is THE BEST way to share large files easily with friends

There are SO many file sharing services out there. Yet, there's no good way for me to upload a 500MB zip file of photos, and share those files with my friends. After an event like a wedding, i need to be able to send *the full size images* to others, and they need to be able to download them with no accounts and no fuss.

MobileMe has solved this. I can easily upload files to my public folder on my desktop or via the web interface. Then in just 2 clicks I can get a public or password protected url to give to my friends. I can set an expiration date and forget about it.

MobileMe isn't the most successful product out there. But I've always been a supporter because it's all about quality, it's all about doing things right. *Because* it's a paid service, they can offer IMAP email, be totally ad free, and now offer dead simple file sharing. For $99/year ($50 with the employee discount), it's a steal.

It really doesn't get any simpler than this.

However, mobile me is CHEAPER than drop.io. Drop.io is $19 PER MONTH for 10GB space (and only 20 "drops")

Mobile me is $99 PER YEAR for 20GB space, and basically no limit to how you can use it

I'll take mobile me for sure

good points. don't forget the basic drop.io is free and (if not paying) anonymous. you should take shittier photos maybe!

And say you want to share a smaller set of smaller photographs... here's a simple trick: just attach them to an email message and send to post@posterous.com. How do they do it? I don't know! ;-)

I use a service called dropbox. You get 2 gigabytes free to use while they also have a paid service. They also give you an extra gigabyte of free storage simply by referring your friends to the service. i don't actually think dropbox does what i'm saying. can you upload a giant file and get a url to it?

Yeah - with dropbox you can just have those files in a folder on your computer and it will sync them to the cloud and then you can share that with other dropboxes for fast download AND you can also enable a public photo gallery link (or private link). I think it is simpler for big files, but its slightly less gorgeous than MobileMe's awesome layout =)

for some reason, i didn't think you could just get an external url for files in drop box. hmmm, there's some good reason i didn't use it last time i needed something like this...

Zeev, dropbox is great. but are you really saying they are the same thing? wow. guess you don't do your research.

MobileMe gives you 20GB of space, ad free IMAP email, and a ton of other services as part of the package. Dropbox gives you 2gb for free, and $99/year for 50gb.
