Apple considers 'active' packaging for handhelds. Products can be charged, updated, and display demo/adverts while in packaging in stores
Apple lastly notes that using coordinate data, handhelds could be made to display media only when at the front of a stack, or when sensors detect motion, such as a person picking up a package. Together devices could be made to put on a synchronized display, which also necessitate keeping clocks in sync through occasional data bursts.

Wow. This would be so sweet. iPhone packaging would have wire traces built into them, to allow charging, updating, and other data transfer. This could even be done wirelessly, through induction.
Pick up an iPhone box at a store, and a demo fires up on the screen in your hand. And the iPhone now in front on the shelf also fires up its demo. How cool is that?
